Empowering families

"It is so comforting to know that I am dealing with people who really care. You really are making this experience bearable. With each day I am feeling more confident we will get him what he needs."

"Finally I feel like we are part of a team that is working with me in the interest of my child"

At each of our affiliated hospitals in Boston and Cambridge, an Autism Resource Specialist is available to talk with families in person and by phone giving them important tools to help those with an ASD both in the classroom, in their community and at home.

Our Family Resource and Support program includes:

  • Parent Information Packet: A folder of information is provided to each family seen in our clinical network. The folder includes information about diagnoses, services, treatments, legislation, insurance, educational options and a resource list. These materials will be made available in various languages.

  • Parent Orientation: Monthly meetings are organized and led by Autism Resource Specialists about various topics. As part of the orientation, a parent-to-parent support system provides opportunities for exchanging ideas, information, and coping strategies.

  • Seminars for Parents: Evening seminars are offered several times a year in Boston and surrounding areas on topics such as managing sibling issues, coping with stress, and understanding laws and local policies regarding education.

  • Parent Coaching: Parents can receive personal coaching as needed on topics such as providing the best ways to talk with immediate and extended family, assisting with a child’s behavior and its effect on family life, and navigating the unknown terrain of raising a child with special needs.
