Massachusetts Legislation:

An Act Relative to Insurance Coverage for Autism H 3809 (ARICA)

Important Points:

• ARICA would require health insurers in Massachusetts to provide coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorders, which currently affects 1 in every 150 children.
• ARICA would include the following care prescribed, provided or ordered for an individual diagnosed with one of the Autism Spectrum Disorders by a licensed physician or a licensed psychologist who determines the care to be medically necessary:
  1) Habilitative or Rehabilitative care
  2) Psychiatric Care
  3) Therapeutic Care
  4) Pharmacy Care
  5) Psychological Care
• ARICA will be considered by the Committee on Financial Services in October 2009
